My philosophy of horsemanship was formed by the great teachings of Vickie Tait and later refined through my own understanding and experience. My philosophy of riding is divided into three parts.
1. Start with the thoughts in your mind first. Because horses are so sensitive, they can sense our emotions. They can tell when you’re nervous, tense, or scared. As a result, when we ride, the first thing we need to be aware of is our minds. Not only will managing and expressing our emotions calm our horse while we ride, but in turn, he will open up and communicate his emotions with you. As our ultimate goal is to be able to sense the horses' thoughts as well. To create a mutual understanding.
2. Next comes your body. You can give your horse a lot of reassurance through your physical expression. At the same time, if they aren't sure what you're doing with your body and your actions, it can frighten them. For example, if we don't feel in control of our horse, we may stiffen up or squeeze up. Since you are literally touching each other, it's crucial that you not only tune in your thoughts and emotions with one another but also your bodies. Match their breath, and their heartbeat, and become mentally and physically one.
3. The reins come last. In my personal philosophy, the reigns come last when you’re riding. Sure you need to hold onto them when you ride, but they should be the last tool you use to tell your horse what to do. Because, if you’re connecting with your horse through mind and body, your spirit will be as one and you won’t need that middle man (being the reigns) to do your bidding.
EFR's owner Vickie Tate is one of my greatest mentors when it comes to the learnings of the horse. She supports me in so many ways including giving me the opportunity to teach and expand my business on her property.

“Working with Hannah over the last few years has been enlightening for me and my horses. I’ve had the joy of watching her work with many horses, every one showing great trust, respect, and love for her. She is one of only a few I’d let work with my new boys, helping to bring them through their troubles into a relaxed, happy, trailworthy steed.” - Adrian (Leader at EFR)
“Hannah…. One in a million. She took to horses like ducks to water, and quickly became a sought after mentor and teacher at Eagle Feather Riding. It is a teacher’s dream to have a student surpass them… and Hannah has handely surpassed me in so many ways. She is a gift to my world and the horses world.” - Vickie (Founder of EFR)
“Watching Hannah working with her horses has been such an inspiration for me. She was my teacher, my co-pilot, and she taught me what it means to truly listen to your horse. When I got my own horse I worked with Hannah on how to help with his anxiety. She gave me the confidence I needed to be my best self for him.” - Megan (Friend)
“Hannah is very confident and a truly dedicated horse enthusiast. She is a deep listener of the horse. Hannah is intuitive, with a super feel for horses and their needs. She is very deeply connected to her horses, connecting with them at a level that is difficult to see with the naked eye.” - Tara (Rides at EFR)
